The Coastal Edition Is Here

The Coastal Edition is out now!

When we launched our Outback Edition, we hoped a few people would enjoy a magazine about slow travel. The response has been so much better than that. Thank you to everyone who bought a copy, subscribed, shared it with a friend or sent us a message. That’s why Issue #2 exists, and why we’re already planning Issue #3.

The Coastal Edition is our second issue, and we’ve loved making it. Here’s a taste of what’s inside.

Down the Yorke, across the Eyre. We follow South Australia’s southern coast from Adelaide to Ceduna, past crab jetties, copper mine ruins and oyster farms.

To the Cape. We drive from Rockhampton to Cooktown, where the sealed road runs out, and Cape York’s dirt tracks take over. Then we stay a few days in Cooktown for Cook’s landing site, a sunset cruise through the mangroves and a pub worth the detour.

Worth the Splurge. Cliffside fine dining at Port Willunga, and a luxury eco-stay on a coral cay full of turtles.

Whyalla, in pictures. A wartime corvette turned museum ship, a circular jetty, and the coastal side of a steel town.

Chasing Giants. Our guest contributors follow wooden giants and cellar doors on the slow road south from Perth to Margaret River.

There’s more besides: the story behind Queensland’s sugar fields, a guide to whale watching season from Hervey Bay to Warrnambool, a look at the tiniest residents of the landscapes we’ve been driving through, and a one-minute microwave breakfast for mornings that won’t wait. Sarge also rates a beachside WA campground on paws, zoomies and swims.

And if you’re wondering what comes next, the Inland Edition is on its way around April 2027, from the hot pools of the Great Artesian Basin to the high country.

Some of our other thoughts

Cameron

Cameron is a travel writer, photographer, and freelance copywriter with more than fifteen years of experience crafting stories that connect people and place. Travelling full-time on the road in a motorhome with his partner, he documents Australia’s quieter corners through Off the Main Road, a travel journal devoted to the towns, landscapes, and characters often overlooked by the tourist trail.

His writing blends observation with lived experience, drawing on a professional background in brand storytelling. With a photographer’s instinct and a writer’s eye for detail, Cameron captures moments that reveal the character of regional Australia, from weathered towns and open landscapes to the honest texture of life on the road.
