Frequently Asked Questions

  • Off the Main Road is an Australian travel blog and photo journal where we share stories from life on the road. We travel the unbeaten paths, capturing the beauty, humour, and small-town charm found far from the main highways. You’ll find honest reflections, local tips, and plenty of dust in between.

  • We’re Neil and Cameron, a couple travelling full-time around Australia in our motorhome with our four-legged co-pilot, Zoe. Together, we write and photograph our experiences…from quirky outback pubs to red-dirt roads and quiet riverside campsites. It’s part photo diary, part travel log, and part love letter to the wide open spaces of Australia.

  • We’ve found that Australia reveals itself differently when you take your time. Small towns feel warmer. Long drives feel lighter. The unexpected moments, such as a stop you didn’t plan, a conversation at a caravan park or a lookout you stumble across, become the memories that last.

Slow travel isn’t about going as slowly as possible.

It’s about giving yourself enough time to actually see the places you pass through. To notice the details, meet the locals, and let the journey shape itself a little.

It suits our pace, our dog, our motorhome… and the kind of stories we like to tell.

  • Slow travel is travelling in a way that lets the country speak. It’s following the light, the weather, or the hunch that a dirt road might be worth it. It’s leaving room for long pauses, side tracks, second cups of tea and all the good things that only happen when you’re not rushing.

It’s not about speed. It’s about being present.

  • We’ve travelled through much of Victoria, Outback and Far North Queensland, the Northern Territory, and inland New South Wales. We’ve also spent time exploring South Australia’s wide landscapes and small towns.

  • Absolutely. Every post includes details on how to get there, what to see, and when to visit. So you can plan your own adventure. Whether it’s a road trip through the Gulf Country or a lazy stay by a country creek, we try to share everything we’ve learned firsthand.

  • We post as we travel. Sometimes weekly, sometimes when the dust settles, and the Wi-Fi behaves. Each story is written on the road, so timing depends a bit on the weather, distance, and how many photos we’ve taken that week. The best way to stay up to date is to subscribe to our newsletter. We promise not to spam you, and we might inspire your next adventure!
